It absolutely baffles me that in 2025, some business owners still think they don’t need a website. “Oh, I have Instagram and TikTok, so I don’t need one.” Really? You’re charging hundreds of pounds for your services, yet you have no website, some with no independent reviews, and no real digital presence outside of social media? That’s madness.
You Don’t Own Your Social Media Accounts
Let’s be clear: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, none of these platforms belong to you. They’re rented spaces. You don’t control the rules, the reach, or even whether you get to keep your account. I’ve personally seen businesses lose everything overnight because their account was hacked, banned, or flagged by the algorithm for no reason. One day, they had thousands of followers. The next? Gone. No way to reach their audience, no way to prove their credibility, and no way to recover what they’d built. It won’t happen to you right? Until it does and then it is too late!
A Website Is Your Digital Home
A website is the foundation of your brand and business. It’s the one place where you have full control over your content, how you present your business, and how potential customers find and trust you. It’s where you showcase your expertise, display genuine customer reviews, and provide all the information someone needs to make a purchase or book your services.
People Still Use Google A Lot
Social media might be popular, but when people need a product or service, especially in a new area or for the first time, where do they turn? Google. When someone searches “best personal trainer near me” or “Botox in Newcastle,” they’re not scrolling through Instagram hashtags; they’re checking websites, reading reviews, and clicking on the most trustworthy-looking businesses websites. If you don’t have a website, you’re practically invisible to these potential customers. Madness!
Social Media Is Not a Credibility Booster
Let’s be real, anyone can start an Instagram business. But if you’re asking people to spend significant money on your services, they need reassurance. A well-designed website with proper contact details, testimonials, and professional branding instantly builds trust. Without one, you risk looking unprofessional or even dodgy, however, in my opinion it is just arrogant to think you don’t need one. I have cancelled bookings worth hundreds and then leading into thousands in regular bookings just for this.
What Happens When Trends Shift?
Remember when everyone was obsessed with MySpace? Vine? Clubhouse? Social platforms come and go. Even Instagram and TikTok change constantly, often making it harder to reach your audience unless you pay for ads. A website, however, remains a stable hub for your business, no matter what social media trends emerge.
The Bottom Line
If you’re serious about your business, invest in a website, not with me, with anyone you feel comfortable with, that could be me but it isn’t the purpose of my blog, Social media should be a tool not your entire strategy. Own your digital presence, build credibility, and stop relying on platforms that could disappear tomorrow.
